#Disabling System Integrity Protection (SIP) For more information, including download links, vist. Close SwitchResX and save when prompted.Īfter following these steps, you should be able to adjust the resolution of your external monitor through the 'Display' window in System Preferences.Adjust the settings to match the appropriate PNG provided in this gist.Add a new custom resolution be clicking the + symbol at the bottom of the window. After launching SwitchResX, select the external monitor from the list on the left.Once in recovery mode, open a terminal window.Boot into the recovery partition by pressing CMD + R when starting up your Mac.If you are running OSX 10.11 or higher, SIP must be disabled. I just copied to the systems folder like this: 'sudo cp DisplayYearManufacture-2015-DisplayWeekManufacture-1 /System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-1e6d'.Īfter that I renamed the file to match the product ID: 'DisplayProductID-59f1 '.

Now you just need to restart the MacBook and choose the correct resolution (2560x1080) in SwitchResX. Hope it helps Sry, I'm beginner and bit stupidoo. Can you please write the whole code for the terminal? And I have problems with access right - I can't copy that file to the folder on mac. System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-1e6d/DisplayProductID-59f1 I think you don't need to make every steps I did. Regarding the access right, you need to be super user to create this file.Īfter a restart you should be able to see the correct resolution (2560x1080) in SwitchResX. Hi guys, need a little help here, appreciate if you guys could help. My 13" MacBook Pro mid 2014 display broke down weeks ago, I ordered a Dell U2720Q with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 60hz.

I am running Mac OS 10.15.4, connected my mbp to the display using mini dp to dp in attempt to get 60hz display.
#SWITCHRESX 4K MAC PRO 2015 720P#
However, I was so disappointed when I could only run 720p 59.5hz while the other options only work at 29.5hz and below.Ĥk 60hz is not what I wanted, I only want to run 2560 x 1440 60hz or 2304 x 1296 60hz and yet my mbp doesn't allow this to happen. However, my friend's 2015 mbp can run easily 4k 60hz with my setup.

I tried this patch file ( ), disable SIP, install SwitchResX and yet it doesn't work. I am very lost and almost give up.Ĭould anyone tell me if it will ever work? if it is not, I will just stop trying.Īlso, please let me know if I need to disable (reverse) this attached patch code if I do not need to use it anymore. Thought I should share in case anyone has the same issue I did. I was using SwitchResX to display 2560 x 1080 on High Sierra without issue.

When I upgraded to Catalina SwitchResX no longer worked and I received the "Not activated - invalid?" message. I tried all of the solutions above: uninstall and reinstall as a new user, update using EDID, renaming the relocated items file, etc. I reached out to the developer and he helped me troubleshoot but was ultimately told that the video drivers in Catalina had a restriction that was not in the previous OS and there was nothing that could be done, my machine just could no longer support 2560 x 1080.
